Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1
You know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. James 1:3
The parable that comes after the words above was taught with the intention of saving people from faint- heartedness in prayer. Our Lord wanted to teach us to guard against negligence, and encourage us to show persistence.
Persistent prayer is a mighty move of the soul toward God. It is the ability to hold on, press on, and wait. Restless desire, restful patience, and strength to hold on are all embraced in it. It is not merely a routine, but a passion of soul. It is not something half-needed, but a sheer necessity.
Persistence is the pressing of our desires on God with urgency and perseverance. It is praying with courage until our cries are heard.
The person who has an intimate relationship with God appreciates the privilege of approaching God in prayer. Prayer that influences God is said to be the outpouring of the fervent, effectual righteous man. It is prayer on fire. It does not have a feeble, flickering flame or a momentary spark, but shines with a vigorous steady glow.
Prayer Requests: Pray for our high school students as they prepare for final exams and our graduates as they make plans for their future. Pray for the relationship of ourselves toward other members of our congregation, that harmony will be the example that others see in us. Praise God for the many blessings we have received this past church year. Pray for Coltyn, as he makes his profession of faith and becomes a member of the church, pray that he will be supported in his faith and church life.
Prayer: Dear Father, save me from faint-heartedness when I pray. Teach me persistence and the ability to hold on, press on and wait. Father, I want my prayers to be effectual. Ignite my spirit with the vigorous, steady glow of your presence so that my prayers may bring You glory. Amen.
