The last Sunday of September is designated Presbyterians Sharing Sunday by the General Assembly of our church. Presbyterians Sharing is the fund that supports the work of our national church. Today we focus on the ministry and mission work that we do together as The Presbyterian Church in Canada: sending mission staff to work with partner churches in other countries in areas such as leadership development, Bible translation, Christian education, theological education, and evangelism; supporting new church development and congregational re-development here in Canada; providing resources for congregations in the areas of worship, evangelism, Christian education, stewardship, planned giving, and leadership development; theological education for ministers, and so on. Details can be found in this year’s Presbyterians Sharing brochure, copies of which are set out on the table at the south entrance. All congregations of our church contribute to Presbyterians Sharing. Our own congregation’s givings to Presbyterians Sharing as of the end of August totaled $3,459, which means that we have already surpassed the allocation of $3,000 that we accepted for this year! Today’s service has been adapted from a service (including a sermon) for Presbyterians Sharing Sunday written by Tom Billard, the minister of North Bramalea Church in Brampton, Ont.
