This Week in First Church:
– Jan. 27, following the service – Choir practice
– Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. – Bible study, at Gwen’s home
– Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – Men’s Breakfast
– Sunday, 10 February, 11:30 – Lunch, followed by the Annual Meeting
– Sunday, 24 February – Deadline for returning ballots
Election of Elders – We will be holding our biennial election of elders in February. Ballots will be distributed to all professing members beginning next Sunday. Enclosed with the ballots will be a letter explaining the voting procedure. Ballots should be returned to the church by Sunday, 24 February. They can be given to Margaret McNutt-Reichelt, Debbi Miles, or John Zondag, or sent to the church by mail. Only professing members of the congregation are eligible to vote in this election, or to be elected to the eldership.
Annual Meeting – Our congregation’s Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, 10 February. We will have a lunch following the service, and the meeting will begin after lunch, between 12:15 and 12:30. A casserole will be provided for the lunch, so all that needs to be pot-luck are salads, buns, and desserts. As for the meeting itself, we will review the Annual Report, consider the proposed budget for 2019, appoint two people to serve as congregational Trustees, and appoint two people to serve on the Endowment Committee. In addition, we will be considering two small amendments to the Constitution of the Endowment Fund, and will discuss whether to keep the annual Stewardship Visitation in the spring, or go back to having it in the fall. We plan to have the Annual Report ready in time for next Sunday, so that everyone has time to read it prior to the meeting on the 10th.
Thank You! Many thanks to everyone who participated in our annual Robbie Burns Dinner on Saturday the 19th! Special thanks to the organizing team of Mardine Garnham, Margaret McNutt-Reichelt, and Lisa Sneesby!
Weekly Prayer Focus – At its meeting this past week, the Session decided that our Weekly Prayer Focus this year will be Refugees. We will therefore be praying for refugees in various parts of the world in our Prayers for the People every Sunday.
