Coming Up

Coming Up: – Monday, 24 December, 7:00 p.m. – Christmas Eve service Newsletter – A few extra copies of the December issue of the congregational Newsletter are set out on the table at the south entrance for anyone who may not have received a copy. Feel free to take one home with you. Reading – If you would like to take a turn reading the scripture readings in our service on Sunday, 30 December, please speak to John. Good News – The work on the heating system in the church basement was started this past Tuesday, the 11th. We hope it will be finished in time for Christmas!

Presbyterians Sharing – Givings to Presbyterians Sharing totaled $2,235 as of last Sunday, which is just $765 short of the allocation of $3,000 that we accepted at our Annual Meeting in February. If our givings don’t reach $3,000 by the end of December, we will need to make up the difference out of our congregation’s General Fund. Presbyterians Sharing provides funding for the work of the national church — mission work in Canada and overseas, the national office in Toronto, the work of the General Assembly and its various committees, our three theological colleges, and so on. Many thanks to all who have contributed to Presbyterians Sharing so far this year!

Cleaning the Sanctuary – We’re looking for a few volunteers to take a turn vacuuming the sanctuary from time to time. If you are interested, please sign up on the sheet on the music stand at the south entrance. The sanctuary needs to be vacuumed once a week, either following the service or at some other time. We thank those who have already taken one or more turns this fall, particularly Lalaine Buan and Rob McPherson!

Remembrance and Hope – The annual ecumenical “Service of Remembrance and Hope” will be held on Monday, 17 December, at 7:30, at St Mary’s Anglican Church (36 2nd St. SW). This is a service for people who find Christmas difficult because of bereavement, loss, or any other kind of difficulty. It is organized jointly by the Anglican, Roman Catholic, United, and Presbyterian congregations in town. Everyone is welcome. Each congregation is asked to contribute three dozen cookies or “dainties” for the fellowship time afterward. If you can contribute some, please let John Zondag know — otherwise he’ll have to contribute them all! Lessons and Carols – St. Mary’s Anglican Church (36 2nd St. SW) will be holding a service of Lessons and Carols for Christmas on Thursday, 20 December, at 7:30 p.m. See the poster on the bulletin board in the Church Hall.

Christmas Eve – Our annual Christmas Eve service will be held on Monday, 24 December, at 7:00 p.m. Join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus in word and song! Soup Kitchen Volunteers – Everyone who volunteers in the Soup Kitchen is required by the Leading With Care Policy of our national church to fill out a “Teacher/Leader Form” and to read and sign a “Covenant of Care Form” (two sides of a single sheet of paper). If you haven’t done so already, please do so as soon as possible. Forms are available from John Zondag.

Soup Kitchen Offering – The special offering for the Soup Kitchen received at our Soup Kitchen Sunday service last month totaled $465.00! Many thanks to everyone who gave in support of the Soup Kitchen!

Christmas Kettles – The Salvation Army is appealing for additional volunteers to staff their Christmas kettles in various stores this week, especially on Friday and Saturday. If you are interested in taking a shift, or have questions, please call the local Salvation Army at 239-7213.

Bible Study – Beginning in the New Year the study will be “Peter: Learning to be like Jesus”, by Robbie Castleman (cost about $11.00). It is a 12-week study (Life Guide Series). Please sign the sheet at the back of the sanctuary if you are interested.
