Upcoming events

This Week in First Church:

Coming Up:

– Sunday, 7 Oct. – Communion Sunday

Reading, Anyone?  If you would like to take a turn reading the scripture readings on one of the Sundays in September or October, please sign up on the blue sheet on the music stand at the south entrance.  Please sign up for one Sunday only, so that as many others as possible also can take a turn.

Meal-in-a-Bowl – Our monthly Meal-in-a-Bowl Suppers will be held on the third Wednesday of the month this year, rather than the fourth.  The first one will be held on the 17th of October.

Bible Study – The study book that will be used is called Heaven – Finding Our True Home.  It will cost approximately $12.00.  If you are interested, please add your name to the sign-up sheet at the back of the sanctuary.

Heating System Project – As reported last week, The Lending Fund of the national church has approved our application for a loan of $6,000 for the heating system in the church basement.  This means that the financing is now in place, and the project can go ahead.  Ingram’s Plumbing and Heating has been notified, and will begin the work as soon as they are ready.  Donations toward the project totaled $2,585 as of the end of July!  Many thanks to all who have contributed so far!

Fire Drill – Our annual fire drill will be held at the end of the service on September 23., weather permitting.  Our national church urges all congregations to hold fire drills from time to time, as part of the Leading With Care policy.  When the fire alarm rings, the congregation is asked to leave the building, and gather outside the back of the City Hall and the Grindstone building.  Please use the entrance that is closest to where you are seated.  Church School students, upon leaving the building, are asked to stay with their teacher until a parent or grandparent comes to pick them up.  When the drill is finished, everyone may go back inside for our usual fellowship time in the Church Hall.  If it is raining, the fire drill will be postponed to next Sunday.
